1. Nutrient Density
We all know that all foods contain calories, but did you know that not all foods are nutrient-dense? Well now you do :) But what are nutrient dense foods? And what are the benefits of choosing them in your diet? Example of nutrient dense foods are, whole grains, fish and seafood, unprocessed lean meat and skinless poultry, Nuts and legumes, veggies, and fruits.
Just because a food is high in calories doesn’t mean that it’s bad for you. That also goes for, just because a food is low in calories doesn’t make it a healthy choice. As a general rule, try to mostly eat foods that are high in nutrients like protein, fiber, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. These foods include veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans, fatty fish, and eggs.
2. Diet Diversity
Another component of healthy eating is diet diversity, which means, eating a variety of foods.
Following a diet that’s rich in different kinds of food supports your gut health, promotes a healthy body weight, and protects against chronic diseases.
Although you may not enjoy trying new foods, research shows that the more you’re exposed to a food, the greater your chances of growing accustomed to it. So, with that being said, try to introduce new foods one at a time. If you don’t eat many vegetables, start by adding a favorite veggie to one or two meals per day and build from there.
3. Calorie Deficit
Heard of this word before? Well let me tell you what means. A calorie deficit is when you eat fewer calories than you use in a day. To lose weight, you need to bring in fewer calories than you burn. With that being said, you don't have to restrict yourselves from eating what you love. Instead, you should add in strength training exercises to your daily routine, or simply exercising more.
