There is evidence-based research to suggest that sports and physical activity can enhance cognitive development in several ways.

  1. Exercise Promotes Blood Flow and Oxygen to Brain
Regular physical activity has been shown to increase blood flow and oxygen delivery to the brain, which can help to improve cognitive function. Studies have also shown that exercise can lead to the production of growth factors that promote the growth of new brain cells and the formation of new neural connections.

  2. Improve Cognitive Focus
Sports and physical activity can help to improve attention, focus, and memory. Research has shown that children who participate in sports have better academic performance and are better able to concentrate and stay on task in the classroom.

  3. Sports Provide Platform for Social Skills Development
Sports can help to develop important social skills, such as teamwork, communication, and leadership, which can also have a positive impact on cognitive development. Developing social skills recruits a different part of the brain (medial prefrontal cortex), which can contribute to greater cognitive development.

  4. Use Kickboxing as the Sport for your Child

Why Should Women Lift Weights

3/7/2023

There are many benefits to lifting weights for women. Today we will cover the top 5 benefits when it comes to lifting weights or even hitting the gym!
  1. Building Muscle and Strength
Lifting weights can help women build lean muscle mass, which can increase their strength and overall fitness level. Building strength through muscles can help alleviate pains that you feel in your lower back or joints (especially knees).

  2. Boosting Metabolism
More muscles in your body = higher metabolism. You won't become the likes of Arnold arnold Schwarzenegger, think more Gal Gadot in her Wonder Woman movies. Building muscle through lifting weights and exercise will increase metabolism and help you burn more calories throughout the day, even when they're not working out. With an increased metabolism, it will help your weight loss goals to be more sustainable in the future, and especially during seasons when you may not be able to exercise (e.g. due to injury, long-term travel, etc.).

  3. Improve Bone Density
Lifting weights will help to improve bone density. A higher bone density means a reduced risk of osteoporosis, which is a condition that can lead to serious bone fractures and breaks. With higher bone density, you can be rest assured that there's lesser chance of serious injury during falls and this will carry on to your golden years.

  4. Enhance Overall Health
Research has shown that strength training can help improve heart health, lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes. This will enhance your overall health and improve the quality of life that you will have throughout all stages of your life.

  5. Enhancing Mental Health
Lifting weights and exercise causes your body to produce a naturally-occurring hormone called "endorphins", which boosts your confidence, reduce stress, and improve overall mood. The larger impact will be improved mental health.

Overall, lifting weights and exercise can be a great way for women to improve their overall health and fitness, and can help them achieve their fitness goals. It's important to start with a proper training program and to work with a qualified trainer to ensure proper form and technique.

Research has shown that children learn better through play. Play can come through many forms, but for today, we'll focus on play through Kickboxing.

What is Play?
Play essentially is allowing a child to have fun through activities. Play provides opportunities for children to explore, experiment, and problem-solve in a safe and enjoyable environment. Through play, children can develop social skills, language skills, cognitive skills, and physical skills.

How Play can Benefit your Child?
For example, when children engage in imaginative play, they are able to practice communication and social interaction skills, as well as develop their creativity and problem-solving abilities. When children play with blocks or puzzles, they are developing their spatial reasoning and math skills. And when children engage in physical play, such as running, jumping, and climbing, they are developing their gross motor skills and overall physical health.

Play is also an effective way for children to learn and retain new information. When children are interested and engaged in what they are learning, they are more likely to remember and apply that knowledge later on.

Is there Play during our Kickboxing classes?
At the end of each class, we introduce fun kickboxing-based games to reinforce the learnings they have undergone. This helps to strengthen the learning experiences for the child and enhance the absorption of the skills.

Therefore, play is an important part of early childhood education, and parents and educators should encourage children to engage in a variety of play-based activities to promote their development and learning.

Benefits of Kickboxing
Making friends is an essential part of a child's social and emotional development, and it plays an important role in their overall well-being. Here at Active Zone, we encourage children to build meaningful friendships which will help enhance their social skills development. Here are some reasons why it's important for kids to make friends:

  1. Socialization
Making friends allows kids to learn how to socialize and interact with others. This helps them develop social skills such as communication, problem-solving, empathy, and cooperation. This skill will be highly beneficial for children regardless of any age!

  2. Self-Esteem
Having friends can boost a child's self-esteem and confidence. When children feel accepted and valued by their peers, they are more likely to have a positive self-image. Research has shown that low self-esteem has often lead younger people to develop negative disorders such as depression and anxiety. By building positive self-esteem, we reduce the chances of developing these negative disorders which can plaque the rest of a child's life.

  3. Fun and Enjoyment
Friends provide kids with opportunities to have fun and enjoy their time. Playing games, exploring new places, or just hanging out can create happy memories that last a lifetime.

  4. Exposure to Diversity
Making friends with children from different backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs can broaden a child's perspective and help them appreciate diversity. These experiences and skill will stay with them for the rest of their lives, allowing them to transfer these useful skills into their next schooling journey and even through to their career.

Overall, having friends helps children develop important social and emotional skills, feel supported, and enjoy life.

What Age Should My Child Learn Kickboxing and Why?

Children can start learning sports as early as 3 years old through physical activities such as running, throwing and catching a ball, playing simple games and martial arts (such as kickboxing).

There are 4 reasons why it is beneficial for kids to learn sports at an early age.

  1. Prevent Obesity and Boost Immunity
A key benefit, is helping your child build healthy amounts of muscle tissue and bone growth. These physical attributes contribute to a healthy metabolism, lowering the risk of child obesity which is prevalent in today's modern age. Research has shown that exercising boosts the immunity system and plays and active role in delaying aging. Such qualities will ensure your child will have a higher quality of life in the years ahead. In a previous blog post, we uncovered the physical benefits of learning sports.

  2. Develop Soft Skills (also known as 'Life Skills')
In today's context, there are instances where soft skills are prized of greater significance than academic qualities. Learning sports teaches kids important life skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership, perseverance, and discipline. Such soft skills are usually not taught in academic settings, but through play (which sports become the medium for).

  3. Learn How To Cope with Losing
In life, we can never win 100% all the time. As much as we love our children and want them to win as much as possible, it is important for children to learn how to lose, face defeats or even get rejected. Through such situations, they learn how to cope with winning and losing, and how to handle pressure and challenges. This will build their resilience and coping mechanisms, allowing them to handle challenges and greater responsibilities in future.

  4. Develop Social Skills
Sports provide an opportunity for kids play and interact with the others in their cohort. The Covid-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted children's play time and social experiences with their peers. Through sports, they socialize and make friends outside of school, which can improve their self-esteem and confidence.

However, it is important to note that children should not be forced into sports if they are not interested. It is essential to find a sport that they enjoy and to make sure that the experience is positive and fun for them.

Kickboxing provides numerous upsides for children. In this post, we will unpack 3 psychological benefits for learning this martial art:

  1. Improved Self-Confidence
Learning kickboxing can help children improve their self-confidence by providing a sense of accomplishment as they develop new skills and techniques. Through consistent practice and progress, children can feel a sense of pride in their abilities, which can boost their self-esteem and overall confidence.

  2. Better Self-Control and Discipline
Kickboxing requires a high level of focus and discipline to learn and master, and children who engage in this activity may develop better self-control and discipline. This can extend to other areas of their life, such as academics, relationships, and personal goals. The sport provides a holistic development for your child, helping them to grow in to their fullest potential.

  3. Reduced Aggression
While kickboxing is a martial art that involves striking and kicking, children who learn kickboxing may actually become less aggressive. By channeling their energy and emotions into a structured and controlled activity, children can learn to manage their feelings and develop better impulse control. This can help reduce aggressive behaviors both inside and outside the classroom.

It's important to note that individual experiences may vary, and it's always important to consult with a qualified professional before engaging in any physical activity, especially for children.
